A booklet has been produced and printed in limited edition showing off the process of building this bike.  I will be making these books available in larger quantities in the near future.  Here is a sampling of images showing off the "Making of" Winged Victory.

It's worth noting, especially in this case, that all of the detailing and lug work are designed and fabricated from straight guage 4130 steel tubing, cut and shaped by hand here at Porter Cycles.  I do not buy lugs and modify them.  For those who don't know what lugs are: they are the "joint" where two tubes meet, the uniting exterior layer that re-enforces the intersection between the main tubes.  Lugs are typically where frame-builders get to add some flare and embellishment while creating a strong structral joint at the same time.

In the case of Winged Victory, all of the wing details that are tucked in throughout the bicycle are not castings, they are all made "from scratch". The entire bike was nickel plated after the fabrication was completed, then selectively masked off on the lug details, then sand blasted before the custom gold paint was applied.  The paint job itself was quite a challenge as I could not find a gold that I liked, so I mixed brass and gold powder with clear coat and applied redundant layers until I liked the depth of the color.  Then the stencils were painted on, with another layer of gold dust and clear coat to help blend in the white detailing color.  Even the fenders and the cranks received some gold detailing to pull the components into the composition.

This is also the first bike I ever built a chainguard for.  I spent three days drafting out concepts by hand until I finally arrived at the design that is shown here.  The shape was water-jet cut and bent on a press brake, I completed the front radius and welding in my shop, polished it and had the whole thing nickel plated, ready for installation.
